A lot of factors go into making a city average, good or great. But for a lot of people, it all comes down to one thing: Going where the jobs are. If you’re in that group, welcome to Rosemount.

According to census data, the city experienced 46.22 percent job growth from 2000 to 2010, one of the top growth rates in the Twin Cities. More than 500 acres of industrial and commercial zoned land have been set aside for development in Rosemount, a sign that the recent growth is expected to continue.
In many ways, Rosemount is a “best of both worlds” city. The best example of this is how industry and the environment are able to coexist there.
It is home to Flint Hills Resources’ Pine Bend Refinery, which is the largest oil refinery in Minnesota and the 14th-largest in the United States. The refinery produces fuels such as gasoline, diesel, propane and butane, and supplies much of the jet fuel used at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, according to the company’s website. The refinery also manufactures asphalt, heating fuels, and sulfur for fertilizers.
The city still stacks up very well in terms of air quality. The air quality index—measured in the number of days ranked as “good”— is 83.0 percent.
Rosemount’s school system is also good. Test scores were 17.3 percent higher than the state average in reading and 15.5 percent higher in math in 2011, according to Money Magazine.
Median age in Rosemount is 33.1.
