New Brighton might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about recreational opportunities in the Twin Cities. But maybe it should be. The city has a lot to offer, and variety of ways to play is at or near the top of the list.

A wide variety of recreational opportunities are available within its borders. There’s Brightwood Hills Golf Course, a nine-hole par 30 executive course. For children, there’s the Eagles Nest Indoor Playground, which offers a ball pit, triple slide and eight-foot climbing wall and other kid-friendly attractions. The city also maintains a number of parks, and either contains or borders numerous lakes.
The city is conveniently located at the intersection of I-35W and I-694, just 15 minutes northeast of Minneapolis and 20 minutes northwest of St. Paul.
Education is another plus in New Brighton. Test scores were 10.2 percent higher than the state average in reading and slightly higher (2.5 percent) than the state average in math in 2011, according to Money Magazine.
The air quality index—measured in the number of days ranked as “good”— is 84.0 percent, and the median age is 40.2.
