Farmington, MN Homes for Sale

As a city, Farmington really has two personalities. The part of the city that lies north of Highway 50 has experienced extensive growth and development over the last two decades, while the area south of Highway 50 has been largely unchanged.

Farmington also boasts one of the newest state-of-the-art high schools in the state. Ground was broken on the facility in 2006, and opened to students for the 2009-10 school year. According to the school’s website, the school has classroom space for 2,000 students, but its core facilities (cafeteria, media center, locker areas, etc.) are designed for a school of 2,400 students, allowing for future growth.

Farmington is 40 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul, but just minutes from access to I-35.

For most of the year, Farmington is a quiet town tucked away in the southeast corner of the Twin Cities. But for one week every summer, Farmington becomes a bustling “center of the universe” for residents of the state in general and Dakota County in particular.

Every year Farmington hosts the Dakota County Fair — the county fairgrounds cover 360 acres, 60 more than the Minnesota State Fair grounds in St. Paul — and more than 125,000 people attend the fair each year.
