Champlin is proof that good things do come in small packages. Covering less than nine square miles, the city still manages to pack in a good school system, steady job growth and plenty of recreational opportunities.
Situated just across the Mississippi from the city of Anoka, on the northwest corner of the Twin Cities, Champlin is located less than a half hour’s drive from downtown Minneapolis.

The air quality index—measured in the number of days ranked as “good”— is 80.0 percent. The city maintains about 300 acres of park land at 32 locations, and roughly 800 acres of the Elm Creek Park Reserve are located within Champlin’s borders.
The schools aren’t too shabby either. Test scores were 13.8 percent higher than the state average in reading and slightly higher (1.2 percent) in math in 2011, according to Money Magazine.
The city, whose motto is “a hometown place for hometown people” has a median age of 31.9 and has a mix of housing from the 1960’s to the 2000’s.
