Despite being close to the heart of the metro area, air quality in Oakdale remains excellent. The air quality index—measured in the number of days ranked as “good”— is 95.0 percent.

Major highways are available in every direction, as Oakdale is located just north of the intersection of I-94 (a major east-west artery) and I-494 (which wraps around the southern end of the metro area).

But while getting to work and getting away from it all are both easy options from Oakdale, there’s a third choice as well: Stay home and take advantage of what the city has to offer.

The city maintains 30 parks and recreational facilities, including golf, swimming, biking and tennis, along with other team sport venues, like basketball courts, soccer fields and baseball and softball diamonds.

Oakdale is also a pretty good place to get an education. In 2011, test scores were 13.3 percent higher than the state average in reading and 23.4 percent higher in math, according to Money Magazine.
