Minnetonka Homes For Sale Minnetonka, Minnesota

Minnetonka offers what many residents will tell you is the perfect mix of “close to everything” but minutes away from a getaway.  On its own Minnetonka — the 17th-largest city in the state — offers all the amenities of a medium-sized city. But throw in the fact that it’s just minutes from downtown Minneapolis in one direction and Lake Minnetonka and its numerous Bays, and you have a pretty good idea why Minnetonka’s property values are among the highest in the state.

About Minnetonka

Two major interstates (I-494 and I-394) run through Minnetonka, providing easy access to Minneapolis to the east and the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to the southeast.

And to the west, Lake Minnetonka offers nearly 15,000 acres of opportunities to boat, swim and fish. But recreation opportunities aren’t the only thing that are in abundant supply in Minnetonka.

Minnetonka’s schools are among the best in not only the state, but the nation. In 2010 Newsweek Magazine ranked Minnetonka High School fourth in the state and 285th in the nation. In that same year, Minnetonka’s test scores were 27.9 percent higher than the state average in reading and 18.6 percent higher in math.

Median house values are significantly higher than the state average, and median household income is also higher than the statewide average. One of the few numbers that isn’t higher than the rest of the state is the number of Minnetonka residents looking for work. Unemployment was at 5.5 percent for 2011, nearly two points below the state average.
