Bloomington Homes For Sale Bloomington, Minnesota

Bloomington, MN Real Estate

Bloomington is located southwest of Minneapolis and is connected to highways 35W, 494, 100, 169 and 77 (Cedar Ave).  Its central location and variety of amenities make it one of the most convenient communities in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area. Home to the Mall of America, the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, Hyland ski hills and jump, and employers totaling more than 90,000 positions, Bloomington, MN is one of the anchors of the Twin Cities.  In addition, almost a third of the city is dedicated to parks!  Bloomington homes for sale are perfect for those who are looking for a balance between the openness of the suburbs and the convenience of the city.  Primarily built between the 1930’s to the early 1990’s, there is a great variety of homes for sale to choose from in one of the largest cities in Minnesota.

Bloomington Condos and Townhomes for Sale

There are condominiums starting in the $130’s, townhouses in the $160’s, and houses in the low $200’s.  As a former 13-year resident of Bloomington, I have an intimate knowledge of the city, its housing, and amenities.  Given the established nature of Bloomington real estate, prices on the whole have been a little more stable than in some neighboring communities, and there is actually a shortage of some homes for sale in certain price points.  You cannot paint too broad of a brush though – every city has a variety of real estate and its own set of dynamics.

Bloomington is the largest Twin Cities suburb, and it more or less has to be to contain all it has to offer.  The best-known destination in the city is the Mall of America, with its more than 500 stores. The Mall employees about 11,000 people, more than the population of some of the area’s smaller suburbs, and generates more than $2 billion a year in economic activity. Besides its nearly countless stores and restaurants, the Mall also holds an amusement park, the Sea of Life Minnesota Aquarium and a 14-screen theater. Bloomington is also home to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

The city’s public school system grades out as one of the stronger ones in the metro area. In 2010, the last year data was available, Bloomington’s students scored 23 percent higher than the state average in math and 28.9 percent higher in reading. Education opportunities extend beyond Bloomington’s two high schools. Normandale Community College, a two-year college, serves more than 13,000 full- and part-time students.

There are 2,116 acres of parks and playgrounds in the city, which also offers two golf courses, a driving range and a hockey arena.  Bloomington also claims one of the largest volunteer fire departments in the nation, with 135 firefighters.
